We are constantly inspired by cinematographers and film makers who venture to the very edge of the human experience and return with empowering world imagery. Tom Lowe is no exception. After 5 years in the making, AWAKEN is a 90-minute feature film from director, producer, cinematographer and editor, Tom Lowe, exploring humanity’s relationship with technology and the natural world.

“AWAKEN is a celebration of the spirit of life, an exploration of the Earth, and an ode to the Cosmos“.

AWAKEN is a 4K documentary filmed in 30+ countries in collaboration with Dubai Film with production managed by Adapt Studios with a music score composed by Joe Trapanese, mixed at Skywalker Sound.

Timescapes

His short film “Timescapes 4K” a portrait of the American Southwest, attracted a passionate following from his peers on social media and support from companies like Canon, Adobe and Google. In 2007, he founded Timescapes.org, a public-discussion forum dedicated to timelapse. Tom was involved in the resurgence of timelapse during its 2008-2011 digital renaissance. No doubt inspired by the groundbreaking film makers Ron Fricke and Mark Magidson, creators of Baraka and Samsara, Tom pioneered several new timelapse techniques and helped design a next generation of motion-control systems. Lowe is co-founder of Awaken Studios.

During production of “Timescapes” in September 2010, Lowe was named Astronomy Photographer of the Year by the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. He has since worked as second-unit director for executive producers of AWAKEN, Terrence Malick (VOYAGE OF TIME) and Godfrey Reggio (VISITORS).
